Flavors and Textures: How would you describe the flavors and textures of your favorite food? What about these flavors and textures make it one of your favorite things to eat?
Masa is made of fermented rice and yogurt. Masa's flavor is a combination of savory, sweet, and spicy. It is typically served with a spicy butternut and peanut sauce or a peppery spice mix, which adds spiciness to the dish. The texture is similar to a fluffy pancake or bao bun. The combination of sweet and spicy elevates the flavor of what would otherwise be plain rice and it is oh so comforting.
Meal Prep: How is your favorite food prepared? Is it easy to source and prepare, or is does it require skills or patience?
It is made with rice (cooked and raw), yogurt, sugar, and yeast. All the ingredients are blended and then fried in a special cast iron pan with individual sections for each masa. It is pretty easy to prepare after the rice is soaked. The only part that requires patience is flipping the masa when it’s fried.
